Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Colin "Ghost Town" Russell was exposed to the idea of revitalization and a culture of self-sustained creativity. From elementary school onwards, Colin was always drawing. Finding heavy inspiration from the loud emotions and clean linework of early 1900's cartoons, and the gritty landscapes of Detroit, an illustrative style was born.
Drawing inspiration from vintage cartoons, he fuses timeless animation style with a unique narrative, embracing bold contrasts and deep black-and-white illustrations to create dynamic, emotive paintings. Cheery characters, with an eerie aesthetic.
Ghost Town has painted murals in Atlanta, Detroit, San Diego, Raleigh, and Osaka to name a few. With design work that has been sold to many countries across six of seven continents, as well as studio work across the US and Europe.
Currently based in Atlanta, Ghost Town is travelling for large scale mural projects, preparing new studio work for upcoming shows, and collaborating with local artists and businesses to create compelling pieces for the public to enjoy.
